Netherton Moss Primary School – Safeguarding Policy Statement
Netherton Moss Primary School is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for children, staff and visitors and promoting a climate where children and adults will feel confident about sharing any concerns, which they have about their own safety, or the well-being of others. We aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of children by protecting them from maltreatment; preventing impairment of children’s health or development; ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care; and by taking action to enable all children to have the best possible outcomes.
Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 also gives maintained schools a statutory duty to promote and safeguard the welfare of children, and have due regard to guidance issued by the Secretary of State. Through its Safeguarding Policy, practice and procedures, Netherton Moss School recognises its responsibilities under the Prevent Duty (under Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015) to “have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
Netherton Moss also recognises its responsibility to safeguard children from criminal exploitation. We are familiar with Home Office guidance ‘Criminal Exploitation of Children and Vulnerable Adults : County Lines Guidance. County lines is the Police term for urban gangs supplying drugs to suburban areas and market coastal towns using dedicated mobile phone lines or "deal lines". It involves child criminal exploitation (CCE) as gangs use children vulnerable people to move drugs and money. Gangs establish a base in the market location, typically by taking over the homes of local vulnerable adults by force or coercion in a practice referred to as 'cuckooing'.
County lines activity has a devastating impact on young people, vulnerable adults and local communities.
Therefore this school recognises its legal and moral duty to promote the well-being of children, and protect them from harm, and respond to child abuse.
