Summer Term

As a school we are always looking for opportunities and ways to educate our pupils on how to keep themselves safe. We have decided to team up with #kNOwKnifeCrime campaign and London Marathon 2024 and we will be fundraising for bleeding control kits and cabinets for outside our schools in Sefton.
We held a mini marathon event in our school this week where all pupils will participate in running 2.6 miles in our school grounds. For participating in this event all children will received a London mini marathon certificate and our school will receive a trophy.

On Wednesday 17th April representatives from Y5/6 took part in a relay event passing on a bleed control kit to The Grange. This is to demonstrate how we are working together to keep our communities safe and how we want our localities well resourced in the event someone is in need of medical assistance.

Well done to all the children involved and a huge thank you to everyone that donated!

Art - In this pathway children are introduced to the idea that design is often about relationships – between the designer/artist and the person who then sees, buys or wears the end result. Where and how do the experiences and passions of both designer and viewer meet? How is one affected by the other and what can we learn from each other? Children are introduced to contemporary fashion designers and use sketchbooks to record things about the designers which interest them, or to note ways of working which may be useful. Pupils are then given a design brief and invited to make their own designs, again working in sketchbooks to explore and test, before making decorate papers through which they can bring their designs to life in 2d or 3d.

Talk For Writing

Thursday 25th January

Another great art lesson! This week we set our design brief - we will be designing and making clothes inspired by the Ancient Maya Civilisation. This week we spent some time researching Maya art and had a look at the colours and patterns used. Then we continued with our visual note-taking in our sketch books. Over the next few lessons, pupils will use sketchbooks to generate and test ideas, experiment with shape and form, pattern, colour and texture. They will think creatively about what elements can be added and stuck into sketchbooks, e.g. paper, fabric, thread etc.

Friday 19th January

Another successful morning at forest school!!

Each week a group of children will decide on a meal / snack to prepare and cook for the rest of class.

This week a group of children chose to spend their £10 budget on sausages ( meat & veggie) , beans and bread. After our trip to Iceland we were ready to cook!! With help from Mr Roxburgh, they cooked up a storm. Well done guys! We all loved it.

We also enjoyed den building, tree climbing and the mud kitchen !

Thursday 18th January

I am so impressed by the enthusiasm and amazing work produced during today's art lesson. Our focus this term is on fashion design and being able to see the link between a person's experience and culture and see how this impacts their designs.

In today’s lesson we used our sketch books to take visual notes on fashion designers Pyer Moss and Tatyana Antoun

Over the next few weeks we will be creating our own ‘fabrics’ and designing our own garments.

November Round-Up

Monday 13th November

Anglo-Saxon Workshop

Oak class enjoyed an interactive workshop which gave us a taste of Anglo-Saxon life. We met the settlers who came over from Europe in the 5th century. Learnt about the heptarchy and how they split up the land to be ruled by different people.

Learnt the secrets of their language and also where our own language of ‘English’ has evolved from.

We also took part in role play that taught us to honour different parts of the Anglo-Saxon world.

It was a great day!

Tuesday 7th November

Monday 6th November

In Geography, we have started our new topic all about North America and The Grand Canyon.  Lesson 1 was all about North American geography, and we created double-page spreads to display our findings.

Friday 2nd November

Halloween Disco

Wednesday 1st November

The children have been working so hard in literacy this week. We have been writing our 'hot task' after three weeks of imitation and innovation of Kidnapped! By Pie Corbett. The children have been tasked to write their own Kidnapped! Story using the settings toolkit.

Tuesday 31st October

As it is Halloween, we decided to have a 'spooky' PE lesson. We played 'roll the pumpkin' and Zombie stuck in the mud. We ended with our favourite dodgeball. It was great fun.

Monday 30th October

NC Objectives - I can consider questions to ask a Christian about the impact that believing in God has on their life, in particular the ways that believing in God is valuable and the ways in which believing in God can be challenging.

I can give examples of ways in which believing in God is valuable in the lives of Christians, and ways in which it can be challenging (B2).

I can express thoughtful ideas about the impact of believing or not believing in God on someone’s life (B1)

Oak Class Present - The ZONES Of Regulation

At Netherton Moss Primary School, we recognise the importance of promoting positive mental health and emotional well-being for our students and their families. We aim to create an open culture around the discussion of mental health and well-being and to empower our children to be able to regulate their emotions. By implementing the Zones of Regulation curriculum, we aim to teach our pupils to identify emotions in themselves and others and provide them with a bank of strategies to help regulate their emotions and improve their well-being. Check out our 'Zones of Regulation' section under 'children' for more information.

Autumn 1 - Topic Letter

4th September 2023

Attached is our Autumn Topic Letter with some information about what’s coming up this term.

Please note that our PE days this term will be Tuesday and Friday. It is important that all children attend school on these days in our school PE kit and not their own sportswear. On PE days, the children's kit replaces their school uniform and so it is important that they are wearing the correct PE kit.

To remind you, our school PE kit is as follows: a navy t-shirt with either navy shorts or navy joggers/leggings. Navy t-shirts and shorts are available from the school office at £2.50 each.

To keep warm throughout the day, the children can wear either their school cardigan, school jumper, plain navy hoodie or hoodie with school logo on (see below). Again, please ensure children are not arriving wearing their own branded hoodies.

Tracksuits with our school logo on are available from Prima Donna . Please note that purchasing a tracksuit with the school logo on is not essential.

There will be no PE this week, it will begin the following week (Tuesday 14th Sept).
