Physical Education

2011 – 2012 Events.

In the lead up to the Olympics we had close links with YKids.  The team came into school for 8 weeks and worked with years 5 and 6. They discussed the Olympic values and played different sports. Curling was introduced which captivated the children and we raised money to buy our own kit. All this fed into a whole school theme, linking geography, literacy and ICT to our own Olympic games.

We held our own Olympics with an opening ceremony where our gymnastic team presented a display. Our week involved the wider community including the swimming coach and Rock and River outdoor centre. In mixed aged teams the children competed in a variety of sporting activities leading up to the closing ceremony and a surprise visit from an Olympic torch and bearer.

Football training this year was provided by an Everton ladies team player who inspired the team.

2012 -2013 Events.

Our partnership with Ykids continued and they delivered a follow up program about the legacy of the Olympics.

This year we teamed up with Change for Life and and years 3 and 4 benefited from coaching sessions and an after school club.

We held a successful Santa dash where all the children took part and parents were invited to come and support. #Our football team benefited from close links with Maghull football team whose coaches came in for training sessions.

We held our 5th sports week this year. We involved outside clubs this year – tennis, golf and multi skills coaches were bought in to try and establish club links and offer a different range of activities. Young leaders from St Ambrose Barlow were also drafted in to work with the coaches and run activities.

2013 – 2014 Events.

This year we have links with Jamie Carragher soccer school and football training is delivered by one of their coaches. We also have additional football training delivered by our school direct student.

Thursday 12th June.

Sport morning – we invited parents to come and watch our children play different sports as a taster for sport week.

We spent the first part of the morning doing – curling, speed stacking and archery in our classes.

The children enjoyed all the activities but many particularly enjoyed the archery. Archery is a new sport that we have just introduced to the children through a lunchtime club.
